Never

start a sentence with 'at least' when trying to make someone feel better.  All you need to say is a simple, 'I'm sorry you have to go through this'

Send a thoughtful gift

like flowers, tea, a natural beeswax candle, a cozy blanket, a hot water bottle, socks, a robe or book.  Anything that is comforting and supporting to the body and spirit.  If they've requested privacy leave some healthy, comforting food at their door and send a short text letting them know it's there.

Help with childcare

If the family already has children offer to go over and babysit or take them out for a meal or for the day. Helping with childcare can sometimes be the most supportive thing you can offer.
