Digital Wellbeing is all about having a healthy relationship with technology, the way that we choose to use it will have a huge impact on our overall wellbeing and quality of life. With our continued and growing reliance on technology it's important to check in with your habits to see if your use of technology is serving you?
Have you been in this situation where your thumb moves with a mind of its own and suddenly you’re 20 Insta-stories deep without even really consciously deciding to pick up your phone. Time is our most precious asset
A digital detox is a period of time during which you do not use mobile phones, computers etc because you usually use these devices too much. (Cambridge Dictionary)
You may feel that your use of digital appliances is minimal and necessary, you may even worry about being left behind. The use of technology has greatly increased with work environments and is now used for most life administration tasks. This may be a good time to look at your use of technology. Could this be an opportunity to make better use of your free time? Could you use those reclaimed hours to connect with nature and those around you?
Digital Detox Journal
Just a week detailing your use will enable you to see if your technological use is impacting you negatively. In your journal start logging the following as this will be the clearest way to see how you spend your time.
Start by logging the following:
. How often you use your mobile phone
. How often you use social media
. When do you look at social media?
. Do you interact with it? Comment on others posts OR do you read only?
. Is your algorithm supporting you?
. Can you view opinions from a variety of sources
. Do you get your world news from social media?
. How many new accounts do you follow in a week or do you add someone daily?
. How do you feel when you’ve looked at Social Media?
. Do you feel happy, content, jealous or dissatisfied with your lot?

Time away ... 🌳
People in search of time away without distractions have taken to finding places to stay that are off grid or with poor reception so that there is the opportunity to go tech free. Although disconcerting initially those attending have found that almost forced disassociation brings on an appreciation of silence and space. Going out in nature, doodling and reading become pastimes that encourage rest and recuperation.
Sam Smith's pubs an independent brewery have a blanket ban on technology in their pubs. 'Our pubs are havens from the digital world – there are no TVs or background music. The use of mobile phones, laptops and other tech is not allowed in our pubs. Friendly pub conversation is encouraged (no swearing!) together with the responsible enjoyment of our beers.'
